Research activities

His main research fields concern the analysis of fatigue crack propagation resistance and damaging micromechanisms of stainless steels, ductile cast irons, Al and Ti alloys, shape memory alloys, addively manufactured alloys and Zn coated steels, the investigation of stainless steels hydrogen embrittlement mechanisms and the analysis of stainless steels localized corrosion micromechanisms.

He is the author/co-author of about 300 papers published in international journals, conferences proceedings and books chapters and 1 patent.

Conferences, Workshops and Summer Schools organization:

He organized many national and international conferences, workshops and summer schools, mainly under the aegis of the IGF (Gruppo Italiano Frattura) and of the ESIS (European Structural Integrity Society). Among them, the most relevant one was the ECF21 (21st European Conference on Fracture, Catania 2016), with more than 700 participants. He was chairman and member of the scientific board of many national and international conferences. He was invited as plenary speaker at many international conferences.
